When you see a homeless person what should you do? Is it true that you want to help

but don't know how?

The Mend App offers the solution. With one click, the Mend App identifies the location of the homeless person and shares it with local services who are then dispatched to assess the situation and offer support. All this happens, without the homeless person even knowing that you have lifted a finger.

You can download the Mend App, for free, from the Apple Store or from Google Play.

The global pandemic has had a direct impact on homelessness with low risk, stable individuals and families, finding themselves facing homelessness. With winter here, let’s choose to look after our fellow Australians and help avoid leaving them out in the cold.

Founder of the Mend App, Rabbi Mendel Kastel OAM, is the CEO of Jewish House and Commissioner of the National Mental Health Commission. Contributor to the development of the App is Alexandra Tselios, CEO, The Big Smoke Group who is a regular radio and tv commentator discussing the impact of technology on our lives, amongst other current hot topics. The Mend App was launched with government support, outside NSW Parliament House alongside MP Alex Greenwich, with Jane Caro as MC, on the 11th of July 2019.

The vision is that by using an intuitive app, the public has an opportunity to help those who are homeless in their community, by taking action instead of simply walking by.

The app will then send a report to local services with a request to check on this individual, and ensure they are receiving the care they need, while also analysing in real time a more accurate picture of what is happening for rough sleepers and couch surfers in NSW.

Mission and Partner Organisations

The Mend App works together with partners to achieve the mission, to use technology and community to reduce homelessness and eventually end homelessness in NSW and one day hopefully nationally. Partner organisations include Mission Australia, Jewish House, NBCUniversal, TBS, MARTINIT, Service NSW, UTS, bsi, Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic and Business Builders Group. Please express interest if you would also like to be a partner.

116,000 People Homeless in Australia

This is very timely right now leading up to Homelessness Week 2021, 1 – 7 August 2021.

In Australia there are over 116,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. Homelessness Week aims to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness on Australia via national and local community events.
